Gutu Birre and Tarakegn Gutu have produced coffee since 1960. Gutu
Birre‘s son, Tarakegn, has continued the family business of growing and producing specialty coffee. He has now acquired more farms and has a total of 4.8 hectares. Both father and son inherited Geed local landrace coffee varieties through their original coffee land, acquired in 1960.

On Tarakegn‘s farm, the coffee trees grow near the home, under light shade from perennial trees, and intercropped with root crops and Enset (false banana). Harvest starts later than many other farms in the area, in Novemeber instead of October, as the farm is in an area of Yirgacheffe that is particularly high altitude.

Selective hand picking is undertaken and ripe red cherries are floated underwater, and dried on an African raised bed for 18 - 21 days.
